Bay City Daily Tribune (Texas, USA) October 4, 2008--Bay City Lions host the annual Bay City Rice Festival and Parade, which celebrates the region's rice production heritage. The parade hosted more than 40 entrants.
 
The New Post Leader (United Kingdom) October 3, 2008--Morpeth Leos celebrated their founding by presenting a check for 2,600 Euro to their sponsoring club for use in flood relief.
 
The Ojai Post (California, USA) October 1, 2008--Ojai Lions hosted a beer and wine garden at the Ojai day festival. The club also set up TVs so attendees could watch the Stanford/UCLA football game.

The Times-Picayune (Louisiana, USA) September 27, 2008—New Orleans Lions partnered with Apple Tree Preschool to provide vision screenings for 139 students. Six children have been diagnosed with vision disorders since Apple Tree began participating with the Lions in 2000.

Fort Morgan Times (Colorado, USA) September 25, 2008—Fort Morgan Lions selected Fort Morgan High School senior Clayton Miller as their student of the month. Miller is a two-year member of the national honor’s society and a three-year member of the Morgan High Singers.

Carmi Times (Illinois, USA) September 21, 2008—Grayville Lions hosted their eighth annual golf scramble at Carmi Country Club. Four players tied with a score of 55 to grab a share of the tournament championship.

Marion Star (Ohio, USA) September 17, 2008—Prospect Lions held an AMP Energy 500 NASCAR-inspired dinner and auction. The club auctioned off NASCAR replicas with a chance to recoup prize money, and funds are being used to finance the club’s vision programs.

North County Times (California, USA) September 9, 2008--Murrieta Breakfast Lions hold an eyeglass and hearing aid drive. The club recently expanded its initiatives to focus specifically on sight and hearing projects.

Jacksonville Daily Progress (Texas, USA) September 8, 2008--The Jacksonville Lions welcomed Fran Daniel of HOPE, Inc., and Brett Brewer of the United Fund of Cherokee County to discuss the increasing economic strain on economically disadvantaged individuals in the Jacksonville area.

Milton Daily Standard (Pennsylvania, USA) September 7, 2008--Lewisburg Lions hosted their third annual Ride for Eyes, where motorcyclists enjoyed a tour of several Pennsylvania towns in support of the club. Riders also had the opportunity to roll dice at each designated tour stop point, and the player with the highest recorded total of their dice rolls split the pot with the club.

Illinois Grand Valley News (Oregon, USA) September 2, 2008--Illinois Valley Lions select club member Lewie Spencer, 79, as the Grand Marshall for their 37th annual Labor Day Parade in Grand Junction. Spencer, a Lion since 1963 and a member of the Illinois Valley club since 1992, is heavily involved in the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, through which he estimates more than 100 residents in Illinois Valley rely on its resources.
 
Arkcity.net (Arkansas, USA) August 29, 2008--Arkansas Early Bird Lions raised more than $3,000 to support LCIF's ongoing effort to eliminate preventable blindness. The club raised the funds with through several fundraisers, including spaghetti dinners, a Jungle Cook-off, raffles and Poker Runs. Arkansas City Early Bird Lions have also assisted more than 120 people locally with their sight needs.
 
Pratt Tribune (Kansas, USA) August 25, 2008--Thankful Pratt Lions recovered a garden tractor stolen from the club with the help of the Prairie Land Partners motor dealershp in Wichita. The club purchased the tractor four years ago to pull the club's barrel train, but it was stolen just two months into its use. The tractor was recovered in excellent condition.
 
Buckeye Country WSRW 106.7 FM (Ohio, USA) August 25, 2008--Jeffersonville Lions announce a blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross in Fayette County.
 
Roger Roy's blog, Orlando Sentinel (Florida, USA) August 25, 2008--LCIF issued an emergency grant of $10,000 for Lions in District 35-O to assist victims of the floods in Volusia, Seminole, Flager and Lake county.

Waukon Standard (Iowa, USA) August 15, 2008--Waukon Lions donated $6,500 to Campaign SightFirst. A portion of the funds was raised using the club's popular spaghetti dinner.
 
Altavista (Virginia, USA) August 13, 2008--The Appomattox Lions Club is holding an all-you-can-eat special at its annual food festival fundraiser. A special of this year's festival is the Mountain Dew cake.
 
New Richmond News (Wisconsin, USA) August 12, 2008--The search for the Star Prairie Lions Club's silver medallion in conjunction with the Ox Cart Days festival ended after Derek Gibson found the medallion in Saratoga Park. The club publishes clues to the medallion's location in the local newspaper, and awards a cash prize to the child who finds the medallion.

Latrobe Valley Express (Victoria, Australia) August 11, 2008--Cowwarr/Toongabbie Lions celebrate the successful fundraising efforts of the 68 clubs in District 201-V3. The district raised and donated more than $195,000 to the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre.
 
Bellville Intelligencer (Ontario, Canada) August 9, 2008--Wellington and District Lions hosted the Wellington Dragonboat races on Lake Ontario. Members of the Bellville Dragonboat club helped the Lions form their own club and host the event.
 
Duncan Banner (Oklahoma, USA) August 8, 2008--Rush Springs Lions host the 64th annual Rush Springs Watermelon Festival. The club prepared for the event by having 30,000 to 45,000 pounds of watermelon on hand for festivalgoers.

The Journal-Advocate (Colorado, USA) August 7, 2008--Lions help continue the 50-year tradition of the Logan County Fair with a pancake breakfast.
 
Sequoyah County Times (Oklahoma, USA) August 6, 2008--Sallisaw Lions hosted their 65th annual rodeo competition.

Canton Repository (Ohio, USA) August 4, 2008--Uniontown Lions hosted their annual four-night festival. The club welcomed visitors by offering free glaucoma screenings.

Newswire Today (London, UK) July 30, 2008--Paso Robles Lions announced Angel Robinson as their Lion of the Year 2008 in recognition of her efforts to increase public awareness of her club's role in the community. Robinson, who owns a PR company, has also served as the 2008 Paso Robles Student Speaker Contest chairperson, club photographer, club Relations Director and will serve as a director for the next two years.

Fort Scott Tribune (Kansas, USA) July 30, 2008--Topeka Lions members heard a report from James Hanni of AAA Kansas regarding the reduction in student traffic accidents resulting from the implementation of a graduated driver's license system. Students must progress through three stages of driving restrictions before earning full driving privileges through the system.

The Tribune-Democrat (Pennsylvania, USA) July 29, 2008--Stoystown Lions are gearing up for the eighth annual Stoystown Lions Antique Tractor Festival. Lions hope to draw more than 300 exhibitors for the event, which features antique tractors, threshers, combines, cultivators and spreaders.

Allegan County News (Michigan, USA) July 25, 2008--Allegan Lions get ready to host their 23rd annual Summer Senior Social for Allegan senior citizens at the county fairgrounds. The club is preparing live entertainment, a lunch, bingo games and prizes for attendees.

Lindsay Daily Post (Lindsay,Ontario, Canada) July 24, 2008--Coboconk Lions are partnering with the United Way to host a duck derby to raise funds for both organizations. The derby will feature more than 1,200 ducks, for which sponsors pay $5 per duck.

Onalaska Life (Wisconsin, USA) July 24, 2008--Holmen and Mindoro Lions partner to host a pancake breakfast in celebration of the Chileda 5k and 10k races in La Crosse during Riverfest.

Winston-Salem Journal (North Carolina, USA) July 23, 2008--An editorial by columnist Leigh Somerville McMillian lauds the Piedmont Lions Club's efforts in the community, and the efforts of Lions Clubs worldwide. The club invited McMillian to a cocktail hour and buffet dinner, and later had a discussion regarding philanthropy in economically stressful times.

Pottstown Mercury (Pennsylvania, USA) July 22, 2008--Spring City Lions plan with the Community Association of Spring City and Target to host the National Night Out on August 5. The event will include face painting, wall scaling, military and fire vehicle displays, K-9 demonstrations, balloons and giveaways.

SolancoNews.com (Pennsylvania, USA) July 21, 2008--Quarryville Lions spread the news about their used cellular phone collection drive. The club has placed collection boxes at local establishments, including Ferguson and Hassler's, Curves and Solanco Video.

Welland Tribune (Ontario, Canada) July 19, 2008--Port Colborne Lions overcome some unpredictable weather to host the 78th annual Port Colborne Carnival. The club's raffle this year featured a choice between a Ford Mustang or a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Cape Breton Post (Nova Scotia, Canada) July 16, 2008--Baddeck Lions get ready for a fund-raiser to help support their community activities on Kidston Island. Owned by the village of Cape Breton and leased to the Lions, the club operates Kidston Island as a swimming destination during July and August, when a 12-passenger ferry service brings children to the island for swimming lessons and picnics.

Gallatin North Missourian (Missouri, USA) July 10, 2008--Lake Viking Lions donated $5,700 to the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation. The donation will help fund services such as free glaucoma screenings, eye care assistance for the underprivileged in Missouri and eyeglass recycling programs in the state.

Town Talk (Pennsylvania, USA) July 10, 2008--Springfield Lions announced the details of their third annual golf tournament at the Springfield Country Club. The tournament--which will feature a $20,000 hole-in-one prize--will raise funds for many of the club's endeavors, including Leader Dogs for the Blind and Camp Kirby.

Ogle County News (Oregon, USA) July 9, 2008--Oregon Lions prepare for their car show, which will feature a 1960's top fuel drag racer. Funds from show will help support community initiatives by Oregon Lions.

North Devon Gazette (Barnstaple, England, UK) July 9, 2008--Barnstaple Lions celebrated their 39th charter anniversary with a barbecue and presentation of a check for 2,000 Euro for various local causes. The club's recent fun run helped raise the funds, which went to support the Children's Hospice South West, the North Devon Hospice, the Exmoor Search and Rescue and Devon Air Ambulance.

Boca Raton News (Florida, USA) July 7, 2008--Delray Lions donated $500 to the Delray Beach Public Library for the purchase of materials for the visually impaired, including large print books and books-on-tape.
 
Laconia Citizen (New Hampshire, USA) July 7, 2008--Meredith Lions awarded Whitman, Massachusetts, resident Christie Colvin $1,000 after her duckie finished first place in the club's Fourth of July Duckie race. Proceeds from duckie purchases fund the club's projects.
 
Marshall News Messenger (Texas, USA) July 6, 2008--Waskom Lions hosted the town's Fourth of July parade.
 
Indianapolis Star (Indiana, USA) July 5, 2008--Zionsville Lion Tom Schuler had his picture taken holding a youngster at Lions park in Zionsville during Fourth of July festivities at the park.

Rolla Daily News (Missouri, USA) July 4, 2008--Lion Bill Peeler is featured for his 31 years of service to the Rolla Lions Club's July carnival. The carnival has been a club and community institution for 73 years.

Bowling Green News (Kentucky, USA) July 2, 2008--Bowling Green Evening Lions handed out flags to donors during the club's flag fund-raiser outside a local grocery store. Funds from the donations will go toward the club's eyeglass program.

Chicago Tribune (Illinois, USA) June 30, 2008--Belvidere Lions donated a downtown clock to the city of Belvidere. Club members hope the clock will give the community a much-needed gathering place for activities.

Brunham-On-Sea (Somerset, UK) June 27, 2008--Sanders Garden World in Somerset donated 1,500 Euro to the Burnham-On-Sea Lions Club, whose efforts support the British Institute for Brain Injured Children and the National Blind Children's Society.

Chambersburg Public Opinion (Pennsylvania, USA) June 24, 2008--Mount Parnell Lions celebrated their 61st anniversary by honoring Lion Earl Ferry with a Melvin Jones Fellowship for his dedication to the club.

Courier News (Illinois, USA) June 22, 2008--South Elgin Lions installed Paul Groth as the club's new president after his efforts on behalf of the club. Groth organized the club's first Beep Ball game and helped facilitate the distribution of thousands of eyeglasses, among other efforts.

Eastbourne Today (UK) June 15, 2008--Eastbourne Lions held their ninth annual motorcycle ride rally, welcoming more than 300 riders to the event. The club raised and donated 2,400 Euro to the Sussex emergency Air Ambulance organization.

Honolulu Advertiser (Hawaii, USA) June 15, 2008--Hawaii Kai Lions hosted the state's oldest and largest pancake breakfast for Father's Day. The club expects to serve more than 3,400 breakfasts at the event, which will take over Kaiser High School cafeteria.

Newsday (New York, USA) June 15, 2008--Mattituck Lions host their 54th annual Mattituck Strawberry Festival, welcoming thousands to the event. The club and event vendors help create an assortment of strawberry-inspired offerings, including strawberry shortcake, chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry daiquiris and strawberry pie.

The Leader Times (Pennsylvania, USA) June 13, 2008--The Rural Valley Lions Club held its 69 years of service in Lionism with its charter night at the Shannock Valley Community Recreational Lodge. Lion Jack Arbuckle was recognized for his 50 years of service.

Lexington Minuteman (Massachusetts, USA) June 12, 2008--Lexington Lions prepare for this year's independence day carnival and fireworks display after ironing out some safety issues with the Lexington Fire Department.

Bonners Ferry Herald (Idaho, USA) June 11, 2008--Bonners Ferry Lions hosted more than 150 children at their annual free fishing derby. Lions gave out 150 bags with fishing gear, fishing poles and gift certificates from Far North Outfitters in Bonners Ferry.

The Northwest Herald (Illinois, USA) June 10, 2008--Cary Lions are parking the Lions Mobile Hearing Screening Unit at a grocer in town and hosting a complimentary hearing screening.

Baxter Bulletin (Arkansas, USA) June 9, 2008--The Mountain Home Lions Club received a $2,000 donation from the Lions Club of Sun Lakes, Arizona, to be used for disaster relief for the Gassville, Arkansas, victims of the tornado that struck in February.

Danbury News Times (Connecticut, USA) June 5, 2008--Danbury Lions support a fire prevention poster contest for fourth and fifth graders in Danbury.

Mearns Today (Scotland, UK) June 4, 2008--Stonehaven Lions prepare for the seventh annual Market Square event, featuring exhibitors, businesses and entertainment. Lions have typically raised $40,000 Euros each year with the event.

KXAN-TV (Texas, USA) June 3, 2008--The East Austin Lions Club rededicated a memorial they helped set up in Austin. The club worked with the city of Austin in the 1970s to dedicate the land for a Vietnam memorial. Since January, the club and other veterans groups have worked with five city departments to facilitate the restoration.

Lindsay Daily Post (Canada) May 28, 2008--Omemee Lions get ready to host a spaghetti dinner in celebration of their partnership with the Omemee Boy Scouts for a recent bottle collection. The group collected $175 CAN in bottles.
 
Maryville Daily Forum (Missouri, USA) May 27, 2008--Maryville Lions make news after their pledge to become a model club. The club's 90 members have challenged themselves to donate $36,000 over the next four years in the fight against preventable blindness.

Norwich Bulletin (Connecticut, USA) May 26, 2008--Colchester Lions were joined by Colchester Leos at the annual Night of Giving May 14 at St. Joseph's Polish Society. The Leos gave donations totaling $2,975 to Colchester Special Olympics, Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Colchester Land Trust, the Colchester Housing Authority and the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Lexington Minuteman (Massachusetts, USA) May 25, 2008--Lexington Lions awarded scholarships to 30 local high school students attending a variety of colleges across the country.

The Daily Astorian (Oregon, USA) May 21, 2008--District Governor Jim Jaggers (36-O) highlights the Daily Astorian's naming of the Astoria Lions Club as the "Newsmaker of the Year" to garner interest in the club via the local newspaper. The club's relief efforts in aiding flood victims of Northwest Oregon were lauded by the paper, as members took part in the nationwide effort that delivered more than 300 tons of supplies to the afflicted areas.

Nisqually Valley News (Washington, USA) May 20, 2008--Yelm Lions hit the streets to get the community involved in raising $21,000 to help restore the Yelm Lions Log Cabin, the group's meeting place. The cabin was built in 1945 and is on the Yelm Historical Preservation Society's historical registry.

The Daily Mirror (Colombo, Sri Lanka) May 18, 2008--The Busby Lions club gets ready to celebrate the opening of Mahinda College's new swimming pool, for which the club helped raise RS $15 million.

Hereford Times (Hereford, UK) May 16, 2008--Ross Lions grant honorary lifetime memberships to Mel Middlecote and Cyril Powell, for their 35 years of service to the club. Middlecote has served as club president five times, while Powell is best known for organizing the Ross Lions Bonfire and Fireworks Display.

St. Catharines Standard (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) May 16, 2008--The Rotary Club of St. Catharines recognized Lions Ted Collins, Mario Girotti, Bill Wiley and Geoff Crane with the Paul Harris award, the highest honor bestowed by Rotary International. The Lions were recognized by the Rotarians for their commitment to the community.

Sawyer County Record (Wisconsin, USA) May 16, 2008--Hayward Lions prepare to celebrate 45 years of service as part of Lions Week, held in conjunction with the Wisconsin state Lions convention.

San Pedro Sun (San Pedro, Belize) May 16, 2008--San Pedro Lions hosted a Mother's Day gala highlighted by the crowning of incoming San Pedro Lions Queen 2008-2009 Susie Rodriguez.

Leesville Daily Leader (Louisiana, USA) May 15, 2008--Leesville Lions honored Evans High School graduate Joseph W. Brittain posthumously with the highest athletic honor among schools. Brittain, who played both baseball and basketball at Evans, was killed in a car accident January 19. His mother, Dawn, accepted the award.

Tulsa World (Oklahoma, USA) May 14, 2008--District 3-O Governor William C. Douthat announced that Lions have secured a $10,000 emergency grant from LCIF to help victims of the Picher tornado.

Muswellbrook Chronicle (New South Wales, Australia) May 13, 2008--Muswellbrook Lions get set to launch their first ever auction by collecting goods including books, stereo equipment, a commercial espresso coffee machine and a high pressure cleaning unit. The club hopes to double the $13,000 in proceeds gained from the Christmas Trailer Raffle it held last year.

Gulf Daily News (Manama, Bahrain) May 10, 2008--The Lions Club of Riffa announced the winners of their annual essay and painting competition. The club will award the winners--chosen from a field of more than 300 entries--at a ceremony at the Landmark Suites Hotel.

Wiltshire Times (UK) May 7, 2008--Trowbridge Lions host a Spring Fair for charitable organizations to raise money via a street market. The club recently raised $500 Euros for breast cancer research.

Zanesville Times Recorder (Ohio, USA) May 6, 2008--New Concord Lions award a $750 scholarship to John Glenn High School senior Luke Brooks. Brooks plans to attend Ohio State University to study chemical engineering.

Sun-Sentinel (Florida, USA) May 6, 2008--Coral Springs Downtown Lions prepare to host a pancake breakfast to raised funds for a series of club-issued scholarships of $500.

Mudgee Guardian (New South Wales, Australia) May 5, 2008-- Mudgee Lions donated $3,000 to the Public School band to help replace older instruments. The club held a bowling tournament to raise the funds.

KeepMEcurrent.com (Massachusetts, USA) May 2, 2008--Waterboro Lions honored six students from Massabesic High School for their contributions to the community. All six served a large amount of volunteer hours, and are top performers in the classroom.

Port Clinton News Herald (Ohio, USA) May 2, 2008--Port Clinton Lions begin another drive to collect used eyeglasses for refurbishment and distribution in developing countries.

Town Times (Connecticut, USA) May 2, 2008--Watertown Lions look to take to the Crestbrook Park Golf Course for their third annual golf tournament. All proceeds raised by the tournament will go to fund the activities of the Watertown Lions Club such as their recent health fair, food baskets for the needy at Easter, scholarships to academic and trade schools, Watertown Food Bank, senior pancake breakfast and local youth sports.

Timmins Daily Press (Ontario, Canada) April 27, 2008--Schumacher Lions hosted their 61st annual Sportman's Show in Timmins. Retailers in the fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation retail businesses displayed their latest products to outdoor enthusiasts.

Kennebec Journal (Maine, USA) April 27, 2008--Manchester Lions and the Manchester Fire Department hosted their eighth annual free dinner for residents of the town 73 years and older. The event included a performance by a local comedian.

Vicksburg Post (Mississippi, USA) April 27, 2008--Lion Roy Turcotte shares his story of recovery from a stroke and bypass surgery last year. Turcotte encourages other seniors to eat properly and exercise, and to keep an eye out for the symptoms of an oncoming stroke.

Miramichi Leader (New Brunswick, Canada) April 23, 2008--New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham declared April 21 Lions Appreciation Day in New Brunswick in honor and recognition of the work of Lions in New Brunswick and around the world. Several club members present in the legislative gallery for the presentation were recognized.

Republican and Herald (Pennsylvania, USA) April 23, 2008--Porter-Tower Lions are looking to sponsor a Leo club. The club has held five Leo club rallies to gauge the interest of area youth while also discussing service project opportunities.

The Valley Item (Pennsylvania, USA) April 22, 2008--The Perkasie Borough city council voted 7-2 in favor of allowing the Perkasie Lions Club to repair the wading pool located in the borough's Second Street Park/Kulp Playground area. The council selected the club, which originally built the pool and also repaired it in 1984, because the club said it would repair the pool charging the borough only for materials. The estimated cost for repairs from the club was $3,000 to $5,000.

St. Cloud Times (Minnesota, USA) April 22, 2008--The Sartell Lions Club is preparing to have a spring cleanup to help residents get rid of items such as computer components, car batteries, fluorescent bulbs, tires, construction waste, appliances and furniture.

Polk County Democrat (Florida, USA) April 22, 2008--The Bartow Lions Club gears up for its annual golf tournament. Competitors will dine on a steak dinner at the clubhouse and have a chance at $1,000 in match play.

VietnamNet Bridge (Hanoi, Vietnam) April 22, 2008--Lions Clubs of Thailand will donate $30,000 to build houses for the poor in Vietnam. During a reception for Lions Clubs Thailand in Hanoi on April 21, Vietnam Fatherland Front Vice President Vu Trong Kim praised Lions charitable activities, including an eye disease prevention program in Vietnam.

Bellingen Shire Courier Sun (Bellingen, Australia) April 22, 2008--Lions clubs in Australia prepare to support a Bicycle Users Group trans-Australian fund-raising ride. Pledges for the ride will support the Royal Flying Doctors Service of Australia.
